Today marks the relaunch of my blog, Random Thoughts of an Ordinary Average Guy. I had this on another site, but times changed, I didn’t, and therefore, all was lost in the mix. So, without further ado, let me introduce myself.
I am an ordinary, average guy.
I have random thoughts I like to write about. The good news is that I try to tie them into something relevant.
I write for my own sanity, or just because I find something I think is inspirational, funny, deep, or just plain interesting, even if only to me.
Years ago, when in college, I was broke at Christmas time. I didn’t know what I was going to do about presents for my family, so I tried to get creative. I asked a friend/fraternity brother, who was an amazing artist, if he’d be willing to maybe draw a caricature of me that I could give to my parents for Christmas. I knew he was busy, but instead of going that route, he went the much more blunt way, and said something that has stuck with me to this very day; “You’re too average”. I swore he could have drawn an abnormally large head, maybe big eyes, or a big smile, but no, too average.
A few years later, Joe Walsh (of the James Gang and Eagles fame) wrote a song called ‘Ordinary Average Guy’. Although the lyrics didn’t fit, I was taken by the title. So where does the random thought part come from? Simple; my oldest son’s friend. For years, I loaded up our van with kids to go to youth group, school activities, lacrosse games, or just over to someone’s house to hang out. Without fail, this kid would spout out the most random comments. I wish I remembered some to illustrate my point, but my memory just isn’t what it used to be.

One day, while sitting at the computer and just writing, I came across a blog site, similar to this one. When it asked for a title, the first thing that came to my head was, ‘Random Thoughts of an Ordinary Average Guy’. There you have it. Three minutes of your life you’ll never get back.
So what do I write about, you ask? Simple answer, random things. I can cover multiple topics in one blog and leave you utterly confused, or feeling like you were just inspired. Yes, I think that highly of my writing.
I write because I’ve had some profound life event. I write because I saw something funny on the way home. I write because I heard a song that triggered a memory. I write because I simply enjoy doing it. I do hope that in the end, you walk away feeling something. I hope you question the world. I hope you at least get a chuckle.
There you have it. A little about what I write about, how I came to name this blog, and maybe a little something interesting that will bring you back to see what random thoughts I have to share down the road.
