Silly ‘Ol Bear

Here I sit on a Friday afternoon.  It’s been a long week.  I think I say that just about every week because my view has become fairly stagnant.  I let it be that way. It’s easy to do, right?   But last night, I was inspired. Although I’m pushing fifty, I still find joy in the little things that might seem childish to some.  I channel my inner ten year old on a regular basis, and I hope I never stop.  I still laugh when someone breaks wind, and I still think I could jump the Grand Canyon like Evel Knieval.  So it’s no wonder that I take solace in the more simple side of life when I start feeling like my joy ride is becoming a landslide.  And no one lived more simply than Winnie the Pooh.

I watched the recent movie ‘Christopher Robin’ last night. I won’t be a spoiler, but as you can probably  guess, Christopher lost himself, but Pooh found him.  And It made all the difference.

“If you live to be a hundred, I want to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.”

Pretty profound for a silly ol’ bear of very little brain.  If you haven’t ever paid attention, Pooh has no filter.  He just says what’s in his heart.  And in his heart is only love – for his friends, life, and….hunny.

“People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day”

I laugh at this one because it’s a simple matter of how you view things, like when someone misplaces a comma in a sentence; it can take on an entirely different meaning. For Pooh, ‘nothing’ takes effort.  And for Pooh, nothing is truly possible.

“I always get to where I’m going by walking away from where I’ve been.”

Ever notice that in most of Pooh’s comments, he’s always moving forward in some way? There was another quote about a door no longer being where they originally found it.  Pooh simply said, “I guess it is where it needs to be.”  He has a simple explanation for everything, and somehow, it makes perfect sense.

“Often times, doing nothing leads to the very best something.”

How do you argue with that logic?  I take this as Pooh saying we’re moving too fast and we miss quite a bit.  If we just sat sometimes and waited (depending on the situation of course), the very best something might just come to us. For Pooh, all he had to do was go sit on a log overlooking the Hundred Acre Wood.  The very best something always found him – usually a friend.  Just what he needed.

And then, there’s the fun that is Tigger.

“I just saw the most preposterous imposter.”

Funny because Tigger is ‘the only one’, yet when he sees his reflection, he’s both frightened and intrigued.  And look how he introduces himself.  “I’m Tigger…T-I-Double GUH-er.  That spells Tigger”.  What confidence.  What sense of adventure.  “Let’s bounce!”  I told someone today that if we all could find that balance between Tigger and Pooh, we’d all be pretty happy.

Now, back to Pooh..

I like red balloons, don’t you?  Red balloons make me happy.  Maybe I should give this red balloon to Madeline so she can be happy too?”

How great would it be if we all thought like that? What if we did things to make people happy?  How great would it be if we saw when people needed cheering up instead of turning a blind eye?  What if we shared those things that make us happy? I know I personally am wondering what I can do, and I really hope that I don’t forget about this as soon as I quit typing.

So what are the lessons learned today?

A simple life can be a great life.

A bear of very little brain can be a bear of very big heart.

Share what makes you happy with others who need to be happy.

Sometimes, you just need to do nothing and wait for something to find you.

Hunny cures a rumbly in the tumbly

Never stop listening to your inner ten year old.
